Food For Life is the largest vegetarian food distribution program in the world

The establishment of this program began in 1974 when Srila Prabhupada saw a group of village children fighting with street dogs over scraps of food in Mayapur. Shocked and saddened by what he saw, Srila Prabhupada turned to his disciples and said, “Imagine how hungry they are…. “God is the Father. Wherever there is the Father, the children should not be hungry? A temple therefore means: free food distribution…. “No one within a ten mile radius of our temples should go hungry…. “. I want you to begin distributing food immediately.”

The words of the spiritual master was accepted as a commandment and all ISKCON temples have been striving to fulfill the desire of Srila Prabhupada and establish this program successfully. Today, Food for Life has emerged as the world’s largest vegetarian food-relief program with over 100 million prasadam meals served worldwide.

Food for Life by TODU

In TODU, the Food for Life is done extensively in orphanages, markets and in nearby poor villages. At present, TODU supplies weekly prasada lunches to a nearby orphanage, Shan’s Home. This had been ongoing since the past 4 years. As for other orphanages, it is done once every two months.

As for markets and poor villages, mass distribution of prasadam is carried out during the weekends by a group of hardworking devotees on a purely voluntary basis. These devotees spend their time and energy to prepare and distribute sumptuous prasadam for 200-300 people.
