Radhastami is a very special day where we celebrate the glorious birth occasion of Srimati Radharani. She entered into this beautiful world on the eighth day of bright moon in the month of Bhadra. The moon appeared to be full to give special recognition to the appearance of Radharani. Over five millennia ago, King Vrishabhanu came to the Jamuna to bathe and found himself engulfed in a golden aura that was springing from a lotus, which had a baby girl standing on its whorl.
When the king returned to the palace with the baby, Queen Kirtida was thrilled. But, she was also surprised to discover that the baby girl was blind. Lord Krishna’s mother Yashoda heard that Kirtida had a baby, so she came along with her husband and her son to visit the newly born. Krishna crawled up to the cradle and pulled Himself up and looked in. At that very moment, Srimati Radharani’s eyes flickered and opened wide, blossoming like a lotus, making Krishna the first thing She sees with Her eyes.
This appearance day of Srimati Radharani is very special for the Gaudiya Vaishnavas. One can easily obtain the mercy of Srimati Radharani along with Krishna Prema. As Radha is Lord Krishna’ servant and pleasure potency, by offering respect to all one can easily get the blessings of both. Among all the consorts of Shree Krishna, Srimati Radharani is considered to be the greatest.
Also, She is respected and highly recognized as the Queen of Vrindavan. On this special occasion, Srimati Radharani is worshipped along with her eight dearest friends namely Lalita, Chitra, Vishakha, Tungavidya, Champakalata, Sudevi, Indulekha and Rangadevi. Srimati Radharani is believed to see the whole world in the form of Shri Krishna.
As Srimati Radharani is considered to be the mother of the Universe along with being the spiritual mother of all souls, by offering Puja to Her one can easily attain her blessings. According to Her purity, caring, love, selflessness, sharing and nurturing can attain the top position of the world. She is the greatest devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
